REGISTRATION FORM

The most flattering garments we can wear are those that fit us well. If you are not a "perfect" pattern size any longer (or never were) and are frustrated with sewing garments that don't fit, join me and "get fit". You will receive a complete set of body measurements, determine what pattern size or sizes are right for your body and learn how to fit any commercial pattern using tissue fitting methods. Take advantage of my 25 years of experience fitting custom clients and students. You will return home with patterns that fit and the know-how to fit yourself.
We will begin with Burda patterns and their solution to fitting problems - multi-size patterns. An individualized sizing chart based on Burda's 13 different measurements will be created just for you and will show you how to take advantage of multiple sizes in the patterns. Learn to use your straight and curved rulers to custom draft a pattern to fit you.

Then take the next step in the fitting process and learn to tissue fit. Pin the pattern pieces together and try on the paper. You'll be amazed at how much you can see in paper. Learn how to identify where any fitting problems are and how to adjust for them in the paper pattern– before you ever cut into your fabric.

The tissue fitting process is the same - no matter whose patterns you choose. Start with a multi-size or single size pattern, one from a large company or your favorite independent pattern line. Learn how to adjust for rounded or flat backs, broad, narrow or forward shoulders, full busts, full arms and more. One full day will be devoted to fitting pants.

Finally, learn how to translate paper fit into fabric fit. You are encouraged to bring or buy fabric and take at least one pattern into fabric to learn how to fine tune the fit.

Space is limited to 6 students to ensure individual attention. A $50 non-refundable deposit will reserve a space for you.

The workshop will be held at the Fairfield Inn & Suites - Portland South/Lake Oswego, located at 6100 SW Meadows Road, Lake Oswego OR 97035. Accommodations are available at the Fairfield Inn or other nearby hotels. Contact the Fairfield Inn directly at 503-670-7557 or 800-228-2800, or visit www.fairfieldinn.com to make a reservation.

You may bring your own sewing machine or arrange with Marla to borrow one.

Workshops begin at 9:00 AM and finish each day at 5:30 PM. The classroom is available to you in the evening and will be locked securely overnight.

Lunch is included each day. There are many restaurants within walking distance for dinner on your own.

OPTIONAL SHOPPING DAY

An optional shopping day on Wednesday, October 12, will give you an opportunity to visit many of the fabulous fabric stores in Portland – Josephine's, Fabric Depot, Mill End and others. Shop for the perfect fabric for your class project or add an irresistible piece to your stash. Lunch will be included and we'll shop 'til we drop! The fee for this optional day is $75.
