FABRIC COLLAGE JACKETS WORKSHOP

September 8-13, 2010
Fairfield Inn - Lake Oswego, Oregon
Workshop Fee: $725
Includes:
- an evening design and planning session
- one shopping day and four sewing days
- lunch on shopping and sewing days
REGISTRATION FORM
Explore fabric collage techniques inspired by designer Koos van den Akker as you sew a one-of-a-kind jacket in this 5 day
workshop. Using fabric as your medium, discover how to combine all types of fabrics – silk, rayon, cotton, wool and
synthetics into a work of art.

Part of the magic is the combination of prints, stripes, plaids and solids – often in "clashing" colors – that come
together into marvelous designs. Fabric is sliced, stitched, twisted and pieced together to create wonderful surface
textures. You may want to consider making your jacket reversible with one more colorful, bold and textured side reversing
to a more monotone look. Once your design is created, you will learn how to finish your masterpiece and add yet more
interest with a variety of seams, seam finishes and edge finishes.
We will begin with a get-acquainted session and design lesson on Wednesday evening. Thursday will take you to Portland's
famous fabric stores to find just the right combination of fabrics for your jacket. Add to your stash brought from home
or begin with new inspiration when you arrive. All day sewing sessions Friday through Monday will give you plenty of time
to design, test techniques, collage and stitch your jacket together. Techniques will be demonstrated each day. When you
finish, you'll want to start planning the next project – the design ideas are endless!
This workshop will be limited to 6 students to ensure individual attention. A $50 non-refundable deposit will reserve a space for you.
The workshop will be held at the Fairfield Inn & Suites - Portland South/Lake Oswego,
located at 6100 SW Meadows Road, Lake Oswego OR 97035. Accommodations are available at the Fairfield Inn or other
